Good/Evil
September 29, 2008
Well, as students we always fail to see the good amidst all the bad.
(Not really students per say but people in general actually)
1. Pre-exam days have been amusing.
(Youtubing mash up songs, seeing someone’s girlfriend, getting high on Siddhartha, talking, completing unfinished episodes of shows left un-watched, eating honey stars which are possibly tainted by melamine, and planning post exam activities after receiving smses from people who blame me for my exams not ending)
2. We have much more free time as compared to our IA-TOK-presentation-TOK-essay Days.
3. Because of exams, we can learn to appreciate the gaps of time after the exams to take a breather before the next hurdle, the next stress related activity.
4. Sucky papers kill our morale, but at least its over.
5. PALIN’S DEBATE ON THURSDAY! SHOULD BE AMUSING.
(seeing the good in the bad, alright)
PS: my mum completely burst my bubble by coming in to tell me that a certain friend has been studying the whole afternoon and I feel terribly guilty now. mehh
PPS: ‘Meh’ is the new favourite word, taking over ’seriously’. They only serve as punctuations to gaps.
PPPS: MY FRIDGE IS STOCKED UP WITH ICE-CREAM! (only exam periods will I dare to make such a bold request to my mum)
Comforting Sounds
September 28, 2008
I don’t feel alright
In spite of these comforting sounds you make
I don’t feel alright
Because you make promises that you break
Into your house
Why don’t we share
Our solitude?
Nothing is pure
Anymore
But solitude
McCain
September 28, 2008
I honestly hope that McCain never dies abruptly during his term, should he ever become president, if not we’ll have a US president thinking that Russia being near Alaska gives her er, foreign policy experience.
If she can run for Vice President, I think anyone can, including myself. My knowledge on foreign policies is probably as bad as hers.
Welcome, to the Dark Side

I am the Patron Saint of Lost Causes
Aren’t we all to you just near lost causes,
Are we all to you just lost?

Biennale, a potential post-exam activity, can’t wait to go explore it.
(Damn the dreaded exams)
(2006’s one was great, especially the one at the Tanglin Camps)
Anyone up for it?

I’ve been having these disappearing acts of late. (past few months)
I’m sorry to everyone to whom I’ve been distant with.
Cravings + Mum = Sweet Treats
September 24, 2008
Mum’s gotta be the most awesomest person ever cause she tries her best to accomadate my cravings during exam periods.
1. She appeared with Haagen Daz yesterday; Coffee ice cream on a stick and Macadamia Nut Brittle.
2. Cake appeared at home like one fine day in random assortments.
Haven’t mentioned how she met O level cravings.
But nonetheless
I’m thankful, for Haagen Daz,
and Mum of course

Vanishing Acts
September 22, 2008
The exams have finally decided to appear!!!! Oh, the joy of its debut appearance in the form of the Chinese paper tomorrow!
Followed by the very awesome English Paper 1 of which no studying is required; Economics Paper 1 where studying is unfortunately required; Chemistry where feeble attempts to remember periodic trends fail me; History Paper 1 where we race against time to scribble down every thought, every word; English Paper 2 where the Joke of the Century takes place; Economics Paper 2 where I will pray earnestly for the lack of Macroeconomics making its dreadful appearence adding to pain; Mathematics Paper 1 which leads me to realise that I cannot live without technology; History Paper 2 where we recall the origins of war, and the War in our minds deciding which is the appropriate date;
And finally concluding with a huge bang with the possible scenario of an empty script Mathematics Paper 2!!! (Due to the lack of motivation to study over the weekend)
So exciting!
Can’t wait. Can’t wait. Can’t wait. Can’t wait. Can’t wait.
For It to do its vanishing act on the 6th October.
(In the meanwhile, I’d like to be ever so conscious the Lord’s presence in every step of the way)
Operation Homeworks

1. aged
2. one-room flat
3. cluttered with pointless knick-knacks
4. alone
5. aimless?
Walking through the dimly lit corridors, you see a difference sphere of the Singaporean life that is not often discussed or thought of especially by people around my age and it was a sobering experience. You see those people whom you would’ve thought, could only exist in the story-lines of the drama serials on channel eight.
Those stories are true.
1. The friendly old lady who constantly refers to herself with a beggar’s circumstance
2. A 6-member family cramped into a one room flat; children absorbed into the shows on television, mother cooking, father smoking on the couch on a lazy afternoon.
3. The inconsiderate neighbour blasting music and making merry in the flat
4. The children running around barefooted along the dirty corridors to which they consider to be their home
5. The elderly who find means and ways to get by and the only way they know how is to busy themselves before they pass on.
In one lazy Saturday afternoon, you see all these things and you can’t help but wonder:
What’s there to live for if you’re simply waiting for impending death in the near future? Technically speaking, we’re all waiting for death but it’s only delayed because we’re assuming we’re going to pass on later because of our youth. Would those innocent children ever break out from the vicious cycle of poverty which they never should have ever deserved to be in?
The old lady whom we helped to tidy her flat had so many things in her flat that it crept to the areas where she slept. She adamantly refused to throw away scrap pieces of paper with random scribblings on it, empty containers, instant food, expired ointment, etc. What if that’s her way of coping with nothing left for her in life to do? She holds on to everything, and anything and that’s her way with coping with whatever is left of her life? She’s probably one of those few who still exercise, take part in activities downstairs at the Centre and enjoys doing craft work. How about the others who don’t feel the need to occupy themselves anymore but to simply wait?
She referred to herself to have a beggar’s circumstance and that really broke my heart. It takes a lot of humility on an elderly woman’s part to accept the help offered when usually at such a late stage in life the mentality is that you’re still being able to cope despite your physical deteriorating faster than your mental aspect. Having held on to so many unnecessary items in her flat that she still held some sentimental value for, she did give some items away which were new or unopened (in the case of food). Its ironic how the poor will help the poor more often than how a relatively richer person would help the poor. I did toy with the idea of secretly throwing them away but once she mentioned of people who struggled to meet the three basic meals, the thought was immediately out of my mind.
Batam already was quite appalling but these people exist in the same country, just 30 minutes away from my own home. Our efforts with respect to these issues are limited, and like what a friend said, that should our own grandparents be in that situation most of us wouldn prevent it from happening at all in that first place.
“aunty, 你要这个吗?”
“哦,这个要。是 Dr. Lily Neo 的照片,要收。”
It isn’t that bad if you’re poor but still noticed.
It is only terrible when there she is among the few who bother about them.
Fulfilling/Depressing/Rockin’
September 20, 2008
I WANNA BE A ROCKSTAR!
Today was good from 7-11pm where I fulfilled my dreams of being a rockstar (!!!)
Other than that, today was fulfilling but terribly depressing. I don’t understand how two conflicting emotions can exist side by side in situations like these but humans are complex beings. Anything goes, I’d say, all we need to do is to always remember to have a heart
