Questions

July 31, 2008

1. Is seaweed a vegetable?

2. The I-Scream booth in ACSI; is it yoghurt or yoghurt ice cream or ice cream?

3. Should I swap topics for my IA and EE?

(I should really stop nodding off during math tuition. I think Kenneth’s getting mildly annoyed. I really. need to escape. I’d very much like it if it was so)

Things to do:
DEATH CAB
History IA
EE readings (because I need to decide whether to swap)
Econs IA 1 & 2
Math Vectors Worksheet
Sleep
Eat dinner

Techie Post #1

July 28, 2008

Yesterday night my router of approximately 9 years died on me. (Oh my! nearly a decade old!) I was annoyed initially since I was mid-way in my show. But, it has served a long and fulfilling life and I am proud of my Dad’s purchase. Pretty awesome if you ask me. I was using a Orinoco RG1000 and now I’ve moved on to a linksys.

Funny how Murphy’s Law really applies. Yesterday I was just telling someone about how awesome the router is since it has sustained such a long life span! Look what happened last night. Shall cease to comment on technology any further, since there is a possibility it might fail on me.

Uncle Andrew told me that my internet connection has been slower because of the old router and old technology and etc, with the new one it’s really a lot faster! (yay) It’s really not because I’m using LAN or not. But LAN’s still faster apparently, oh well (:

Crescent

July 27, 2008

Speech Day was yesterday and I was waiting for yesterday to come in a while. It wasn’t all that exciting during the ceremony but was nice to be back :) I miss Crescent quite a bit, and I miss being in a girl’s school. Oh the joy of doing many many things at our own free will without being bothered by boys. Things are less complicated too with just sheer, pure, innocent fun. Corruption is in a way inevitable in a ahem, boys school.

God does work in amazing, amazing ways. I was actually reminded that Crescent was 5th Choice after I read Bell’s blog. I don’t know how I ended there and I’m glad I didn’t appeal elsewhere. I went there with a tinge of disappointment. But after 4 years, really definitely no regret.

Glad to meet friends in different uniforms and just coming back together to meet up and catch up.
Proud of my friends as they went up to receive awards, and especially Lily Phoa who got the Evelyn Norris award.
Misses Crescent Dance dearly after I watched them perform. I remember all the ridiculous times on stage and the practices, the love, laoshi, the bond. Crescent Dance is really one of the best things that has happened to me and thanks to all the darlings who were a part of the 2005, 2007 Gold with Honours during SYF too. I really miss you guys.

I am ever convinced that Crescent spoon feeds us like crazy and the teachers really looked after us and pampered us! (especially when in JC now) Long gone are the days of Night Studies, incessant consultations and the worries of not meeting the expectations of our teachers in comparison with the previous batch before us. Sitting at Speech Day was the realization of what we had hoped for, pride, and gratefulness.

After conversations with friends, we’ve all moved on the different places. Crescent too has moved on to a canteen with 10 Wiis and many labs with unknown names. Nonetheless, some things still don’t change, like lunches with Bell and Keon.

Closure; May Crescent remain in our hearts :)

Apply your heart

July 27, 2008

Over the weekend, I’ve been sharing snippets of my thoughts more openly than usual. It’s pretty odd I guess, but maybe, it might just be a good thing. It isn’t the entire train of thought that I would actually go through, but just bits and pieces from it.

“It feels nice to be heard”, Joyce’s Thoughts say. “But maybe, I’ve been saying random things for validation”, Joyce’s Thoughts contemplate further.

But I say I’m not seeking validation, despite what Joyce’s Thoughts say. I think I finally see how my thoughts all link up and really, it is a pretty awesome big picture that I see in front of me. I think I’m glad.

Apply your heart.

I dreamed I was dying; as I so often do
And when I awoke I was sure it was true
I ran to the window; threw my head to the sky
And said whoever is up there, please don’t let me die

But I can’t live forever, I can’t always breathe
One day I’ll be sand on a beach by a sea
The pages keep turning, I’ll mark off each day with a cross
And I’ll laugh about all that we’ve lost

Weddings and Wakes

July 25, 2008

Weddings and Wakes are similar in nature, in Singapore that is.

They both involve food, family gatherings, conversation and gossip. The only difference is probably the purpose of the event and the setting but other than that, they are extremely similar. Sometimes you wonder whether you’re in a Wake or in a Wedding when you’re in a Wake simply because a Wake doesn’t seem like a Wake. You don’t see people wailing or crying.

Nonetheless a queer observation that they are so similar even though one represents Joy and the other Grief.

Wake Up, Sleepy Head

July 24, 2008

Had math tuition today, nearly died. Was groggy and sleepy, due to messed up sleep cycles. I was literally nodding off. I think Kenneth might have been mildly annoyed. Now, I’m very much awake.

Goodbye, messed up sleep cycles. I’m very much happy to live without you.

Chups & I

July 23, 2008

Well, I saw this Crescent girl at YCK MRT. She boarded the bus with me on 86 and stood the whole way through. She carried her hockey stick, heavy bag and another plastic bag. She stopped at the same Jalan Kayu stop too and walked in. She had messy hair all over the place and looked terribly tired. When crossing the main junction, she hesitated when the bus turned. After she reached across safely, she walked dragging her feet at a slow pace.

This really reminded me of Chups & I when we were Sec 2. We carried our bags, our tablets, and our dance stuff and went home through town with Lizard and we would randomly stop by Bead Talk for food and look at random shops. The reason for Bread Talk was so that we didnt have to eat dinner at home and in Chups case the awful pumpkin macaroni. Well sometimes after YCK station we do get a lift from our parents but other times we just took the bus back. We would talk about her terrible dinners at home, people watch, phones, music, dance; anything.

I text Chups when I saw that girl and we’re reminded of those late late nights. Good times baby, good times (:

P-Words

July 23, 2008

Haha, today was OCS visit. It was interesting because I realised that I knew a lot of the going ons and etc. in OCS/BMT cause the army boys have said so much about it! The food’s okay just a funny after taste. Oh! We got to fire blanks! Pretty cool if you ask me. Just that gun powder smells really bad. OCS is generally quite pretty and it was definitely a national education excursion alright.

Patriotism and other, ahem related P-Words ftw.

3AM Nights, again.

July 22, 2008

Things to do before a TOK essay editing time:
1. Eat dinner
2. Eat fruits
3. Watch SYTYCD and feel terribly disappointed with the show
4. Take a half an hour nap which inevitably becomes a 1 hour nap
5. Contemplate whether to do it tonight or to leave it for tomorrow.
6. Contemplate longer
7. Contemplate some more while you’re lying in bed.
8. Wash up
.
.
.
.
9. Turn on the Mac and edit the TOK essay.
10. I’m productive on TOK essays at night.

(Wisdom tells you not to procrastinate. I made it through a day! yay)
